HOW TO DOWNLOAD FROM THE INTERNET

 

When you want to download from sites like ModtheSims or Peggyzone, you will need Winrar of course.
Downloads for Clothing, Furniture etc. from internetsites come in different formats:

 

  • .Sims3Packs
  • .Package
  • .Sims

 

     

As soon as you unpacked the with Winrar, go and look for the specific format. (Or right-click and choose Properties).

 

SIMS3PACKS

 

These are the easiest to install.
Place the unpacked file in My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Downloads and they automaticly show up in the Launcher (Startscreen) in Downloads.
Select the file and choose Install.

 

 

SIMS

 

Downloads with the extension.sims should be placed in:

My Documents ->Electronic Arts -> The Sims 3 -> SavedSims.

No such folder ? - You are allowed to make one yourself.

 

PACKAGE

 

These are the most difficult files to install, because here you'll have to do some preparations.
In Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 you must make some new folders:

 

    1. A folder named Mods
    2. In the Mods-folder at least a folder Packages and a folder Test
    3. In de folder Packages you are allowed to make various sub-folders like Clothing, Furniture, Hair aso.
    4. Furthermore, you can divide your folder Clothing in Male, Female.
    5. The folders may be divided into various sub-folders such as Baby, Teen, Adult.

    Furthermore an additional file, called Resource.cfg, is required in Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3.

    This file tells the programm where to look for the downloads.

    You are advised to use this file when you want to work with sub-folders !


     

    The unpacked downloads usually contain a Resource.cg, a Read-me and 1 or more .packagefiles. Only use the .packagefiles !!

    Place the .packagefiles in your folder Test. When the downloads appear in your game and cause no problems to the game, then you can place them in the relevant folders in Packages and remove them from the folder Test.


    Bij working in this manner, your folder Packages (incl. sub-folders) only contain coorect downloads. Is your game behaving starngely all of a sudden, then you know it might be caused by one of the downloads in Test.

    Your folder Program Files\Electronic Arts\Sims3 will now look as follows:

    When you open the folder Mods, you will see something like this:

    Because not all Reseource.cfg files from the various downloads are the same, we strongly recommand to use the specific Resourse.cfg from this page only.

    Inspite of the information given above, many people still experience problems with downloading from the internet. So hereby an example.

     

    1. From the site http://www.all-about-style.com/ we look for
              ADULT FEMALE BOTTOMS: Wrap Mini With Ruffle (row 5, the 2nd)

    2. Click on Download and select Save. Destination f.e. Desktop.

    3. You now have a pile of books on your desktop with the name FAsoftpleat_AAS

    4. Right-click on the books and select Extract to FAsoftpleat_AAS (name already visable).

    5. Now you'll have a new folder with that same name.

    6. Open the folder and you'll find 1 .package file with again that same name.

    7. Change that name in f.e. redandgreyDress.package

    8. Place or copy this .package file to the folder Program Files - Electronic Arts - The Sims3  -  Mods -Test.

    9. Restart your game

    10. When it is a correct working download it should be visable in your game. In this example you must look well, as it can be found under Trousers !! 

    11. Everything correct ?, place it in one of your sub-folders in Clothing and remove it from Test.
