DOWNLOAD FROM THE INTERNET Warning: Downloading from the Internet can cause harm to your computer. A faulty download may crash the computer. So, visit well-known sites only, such as f.e. modthesims2. Be aware that the nice dress, you think you are downloading, could just as well be something completely different, a virus or a tracker ! Many people have problems downlading from the internet. First af all you must have a suitable "unpack-programm" like Winzip of Winrar. Winrar is bij far the easiest in use and can be downloaded for free from www.winrar.nl. If you donŽt have it as yet, download it now and choose Run Create a folder on your desktop and name it "Internetdownloads". This folder will be your default for all downloads from the internet. Create another older inside it and name it "Done". Now you are ready to download Visit your favourite download-site. Click on the abject of your choice and select Save. You will see an explorer-like screen showing the files and folders on your computer. Select desktop and your folder "Internetdownloads". Your download, often an incredible name, will now be saved in your "Internetdownloads" and looks like a pile of books or a folder with a zip. Right-click on that folder or the books and select Change name. Because downloads can contain stuff that causes your computer to crash, I always give it an understandable name, being date_site_contents. So downloading a red sofa from modthesims2 on 15th May 2008, the name will be: 080515_modthesims2_redsofa (date=yymmdd) Right-click on the item you just changed the name for and select Unpack in 080515_modthesims2_redsofa (often you cannot see the whole file name, but you can rest assured that it ist there) Now an ordinary folder 080515_modthesims2_redsofa will appear. Move this folder to Program Files / Maxis /The Sims / Downloads Move your original download to your folder "Done". Start your game and you can now buy the red sofa. Advantages of doing it this way: 1. Your folder "Internetdownloads" is empty again. 2. Your Folder Downloads in Program Files / Maxis / The Sims is neat and sorted. 3. In case of problems after a download, you can easily see which download caused it. 4. The unpacked original downloads are still in your folder "Done" and can be used again when you have to re-install the game on your present or any future computer. Was your game in perfect order before your downloads and now all of a sudden it crashes, then you know what caused it. Simply sort your donloads alphabeticly and youŽll find your latest downloads immediately. Take care that when downloading clothes and hardue, you also download the mesh
