HOW TO MAKE A BACKUP

It is recommended to make a backup (copy) of your Sims on a regular basis.
The game can crash or you want to re-install it.

Create a new folder "Backup"on your desktop.

Go to My Computer and rightclick on the icon of the disk you installed the Sims on (usually this is drive C:)

1. Click on Explore
2. Find Program Files and click the folder open
3. Find the folder Maxis and click it open
4. Find The Sims and clcik it open

Copy the following folders to your folder "Backup"
All folders UserData of the neighbourhoods you played in.
UserData   = Neighbourhood 1
UserData2 = Neighbourhood 2
UserData3 = Neighbourhood 3
aso.

Folder GameData
Folder Downloads

You now safeguarded all your own Houses, Sims and other stuff

To restore, copy them back from your folder "Backup" to the folder The Sims. Overwrite ? - Yes.
